Description & Requirements

Summary: 

Responsible for administration, management, documentation, and continual evaluations of multiple database management systems. Performs technical, analytical, and professional services in support of the Infor Management Services database stack. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Database Administration:
    • Manage and maintain SQL databases such as Microsoft SQL Server
    • Perform database installations, configurations, and upgrades.
    • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
    • Manage HA databases
  2. AWS Integration and AWS knowledge:
    • Deploy and manage SQL databases using AWS services like Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, and EC2 instances.
    • Utilize AWS tools for monitoring (CloudWatch), logging (CloudTrail), and automation (CloudFormation/Terraform).
    • Deploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available systems on AWS
    • Setup and maintain cloud-based infrastructure
    • Design and implemented Security using VPC, IAM, Security Groups and NACL
    • Ensure appropriate redundancy and fallbacks in all server environments
    • Building from the ground up reliable infrastructure services in AWS to deliver highly scalable services
    • Creating the High available servers which span across Availability Zones using VPC and Elastic Load Balancer
    • Establish metrics and carefully monitor the health/utilization of AWS resources on a wide scale by making use of Amazon CloudWatch
    • Implement and control the flow of data to and from AWS
    • Select the appropriate AWS service based on compute, data, or security requirements
    • Identify appropriate use of AWS operational best practices
    • Maintain a backup of the AWS resources
    • Experience provisioning, operating, and maintaining systems running on AWS
    • Ability to identify and gather requirements to define a solution to be built and operated on AWS
    • Experience scaling an application and/or its hosting environment to support increases in traffic
    • Maintaining detailed documentation of AWS configurations, procedures, and best practices.
    • Identifying and resolving issues and incidents that may arise in the AWS environment, such as network problems or service outages
  3. Performance and Optimization:
    • Analyze and optimize SQL queries for performance improvements.
    • Implement indexing, partitioning, and other techniques to enhance database efficiency.
    • Addressing Index Fragmentation and Database locks
    • Conduct regular performance tuning and capacity planning exercises.
    • Addressing Sync lag in HA Operations and performing Fail-Over testing’s
  4. Security and Compliance:
    • Implement robust security measures to protect databases, including encryption and access controls.
    • Ensure databases comply with industry regulations and standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc.
  1. Backup and Recovery:
    • Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using AWS services and native database tools.
    • Conduct regular backup verification and disaster recovery tests.
  2. Collaboration and Support:
    • Work closely with application development teams to design database architectures that meet business needs.
    • Provide expert-level support for database-related issues and guide junior DBAs.
    • Provide Expert-level support for AWS infrastructure.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations and operational procedures.
    • Generate performance and usage reports for stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in SQL programming and database management.
    • In-depth understanding of AWS database services, cloud architecture, and networking.
    • Experience with database performance tuning, high availability solutions, and replication.
    • Writing Scripts in automating jobs
    • Expertise in AWS Infrastructure Setup and maintain cloud-based infrastructure
  • Experience:
    • Typically, 8+ years of experience as a SQL DBA and AWS Infrastructure with a significant focus on AWS cloud environments.
    • Proven track record of managing large-scale databases and Infrastructure.
  • Certifications:
    • AWS Certified Database - Specialty
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (if working with SQL Server)
    • Other relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect are advantageous.
